The Rhythm of Riding: A Lifestyle Interview with Giacomo Bassi

From Saddles to Synths: How Music and Horses Shaped His Journey
A Family of Horse Lovers, Not Professionals
“I didn’t come from a horse family, not professionally at least… but I definitely come from a family of horse lovers.”
Giacomo Bassi’s equestrian story began like many others: at a local riding school, on school ponies, with no guarantee the passion would stick. But unlike many others, his devotion never faded — even when tested by the sport’s challenges.
From Zero to the International Stage
“When you start from zero, it takes time to understand the dynamics and break into the world.”
Climbing the ranks in equestrian sport without deep industry roots or financial ease wasn’t simple. But Giacomo credits hard work and family support for helping him find his path to success. He may not have had shortcuts, but he had dedication — and it paid off.
The Hidden Talent: A Musician at Heart
“Despite being terrible at most sports, I was always good at music.”
Though horses won his focus, music is Giacomo’s quiet second love. He’s a skilled multi-instrumentalist with a natural ear and a passion for quality sound. “Recording and composing take so much time. It just doesn’t fit with the life of a rider,” he admits — though he still sneaks in jam sessions when he can.
The Essential Travel Companion: Headphones
“Even if it’s just 15 or 20 minutes, listening to a few songs helps reset my mood.”
Life on the road is constant in show jumping, and Giacomo never travels without his headphones. For him, music isn’t just entertainment — it’s a way to decompress and reconnect with himself.
In the Ring: Precision Matters
“One thing that’s always in my ring bag is sticky spray.”
In competition, Giacomo is all about feel and precision. Sticky spray — used by riders to enhance grip and stability in the saddle — helps him stay perfectly in tune with the horse beneath him. “I’m very sensitive about my position,” he explains. “It helps me control exactly how much leg I’m using, especially in big moments.”
Dreams Beyond Borders
“The dream trip? Probably competing at Spruce Meadows.”
For Giacomo, the dream isn’t a break from the sport — it’s going even further into it. Competing at the legendary Spruce Meadows in Canada remains high on his list, not just for the competition, but for the experience of achieving something once unthinkable.
Superpower of Choice? A Bob Marley Mindset
“I’d love to have Bob Marley’s superpower — to take life a bit more lightly.”
Rather than super strength or flight, Giacomo’s ideal power would be emotional grace — the ability to live with more peace, ease, and kindness in relationships. It’s a reflection of his grounded, thoughtful character.
