A mistake at the Blair Horse Trials
An unusual affair occurred at the Blair Horse Trials, as reported on the event’s official website www.blairhorsetrials.co.uk. The organizers of the CIC3* have publicly admitted that assigned the win for the event to the wrong horse and rider.
Clearly, this was not an intentional error, but one that was picked up upon reviewing the video of the race; and more specifically reviewing the the final test of the Trials, the second show jump. The video showed that the pair which had been assigned the win, Harriett Wright on Ngong Hills, made two mistakes during the run, not one as had previously been believed.
The oversight was brought to light by Harriett Wright herself, who contacted the organizers after watch the footage of her run. In light of the mistake, the actual winners of the event should have second placed Matt Heath and Cooley Lord Lux.
However, due to FEI regulations it is not possible change competitor’s final placements because the mistake was picked up too late. Nonetheless, the event organizers contacted Matthew Heat and the owner of Cooley Lord Lux to offer an apology and financial compensation.
