
Aachen CHIO 2014: Results from Friday

The riders from Oltralpe in particular were under the spotlight in Friday’s trials at Aachen: Julien Epaillard won the NetAachen Prize from 1.40m on his gelding Selle Française Pigmalion du Rozel and owned by Hello Holdings. He was followed in the standings by Hans – Dieter Dreher with Holsteiner Quiwi Dream (Quidam de Revel) while the final podium slot was taken by Belgian rider Olivier Philippaerts with Carlito C (Kannan).

The jump & drive that took place in the afternoon was a real treat for the fans and was a trial that involved 8 teams (made up of one rider and one driver). The first to perform were the riders that took on a course made up of 8 obstacles. Once the last obstacle had been overcome, the rider got off the horse and passed it over to the groom, before rushing over to the driver who began the second course.Victory went to the team that completed both courses in the quickest time possible, with penalties for every obstacle knocked down of 4 seconds.
The quickest team was that made up of German rider Christian Kukuk on Synderella and driver Christoph Sandmann. Ukraine’s Cassio Rivetti with Cartoon 2 and Hungary’s Jòzsef Dobrovitz came second. Third place meanwhile was taken by Shane Breen on Ominrale Courcelle and Sweden’s Tomas Eriksson.Italian rider Emanuele Gaudiano with the young Corbanus was also competing alongside the French driver Benjamin Aillaud although the Italian-French team were eliminated.

As for show-jumping, the main event was the one round trial with jump-off from 1.55m. The prize-money was from 130 thousand euros. The competition was unique in that it was presented by the Minister for the Development and Protection of Nature, Agriculture and Consumers for Westphalia, Johann Remmel.Victory went to the young German lady-rider Katrin Eckermann on Carlson 46 (Casco) after a faultless run just like 7 other riders, but Eckermann finished in a quicker time.
Brazilian rider Doda de Miranda came second with AD Nouvelle Europe Z (Nelson Z) after completing the course nearly 1 second slower than the race winner. Daniel Deusser finished in third on First Class van Eeckelghem (Balou du Rouet).
