Akhal Tekè breed elected Horse of Honour for WEG 2014

The following Equestrian World piece will gladden the hearts of all fans of the Akhal Tekè breed.
The Normandy 2014 Organising Committee has in fact announced that the Akhal Téké is to be the Horse of Honour of the World Equestrian Games 2014!
The Akhal Tekè breed is one of the oldest in the world and is a light, fast and enduring horse. It is also well documented that Alexander the Great bought numerous quantities after his marriage to Princess Roxana. Its nicknames include “heavenly horse” for its graceful lines and the “golden horse”.
This breed was created by the Tekè tribe that lived in the Turkmenistan oasis and where it is still today an important national symbol and present. It is also widely found in the Central Asia steppes, India, China and southern Russia. To continue, it has contributed to the creation of many breeds, including Arabians, English and the Trakehner horse of Don.
The Akhal-Teke is primarily a racehorse, but it is used in all forms of riding. It is quick, responsive, intelligent and sensitive which has helped the breed distinguish itself in the equestrian sector across many disciplines. The general studbook is found in Russia which is a focal point for all the other national associations for the breed.
In France 350 are used for sporting purposes and certified by the National Association Akhal Tekè France in collaboration with Haras Nationaux. In Italy meanwhile the breeding of the race is dealt with by Akhal Tekè Italia.
