Rome will be the centre of the Show Jumping world from four o’clock today as it hosts a stage in the Longines Global Champions Tour at the Pietro Mennea Stadio dei Marmi.
The 25 best ranked pairs will be taking to the field following the team trial in the morning. The event will be a time trial which will decide the rankings for the roman stage of the Global Champions League.
In the run up to the event team Valkenswaard United leads the way, with riders Marcus Ehning (on Comme il Faut)  and Alberto Zorzi (on Fair Light van’T Heike).
The Longines GP qualifications have just started and the first rider to take the field was Italian Luigi Polsello on Panama Tame, while many are waiting for Harrie Smolders, current leader in the LGCT rankings and winner of the 2016 Rome LGCT, and his horse Don VHP Z which he took silver in the recent European Championships in Gothenburg. The event can be seen on Eurosport 1 this evening from 19.45, but to stay up-to-date check out the tournament’s official website.
