
Carlos García Sánchez and Coree win the first Junior* qualifier at the Andalucia Sunshine Tour

The Spanish Youth Showjumping Championships got off to a flying start today at the Andalucia Sunshine Tour in Montenmedio, with thrilling performances across the Junior*, Junior, and Children categories.
Carlos García Sánchez unbeatable in Junior*
With a lightning-fast round of 65.91 seconds, Carlos García Sánchez and his horse Coree secured victory in the first Junior* qualifier (1.35m), held in the Milton Arena. The competition was run as an Accumulator with four-second penalties for each pole down, and was generously sponsored by Hipotels.
Hot on Carlos’ heels was his brother Borja García Sánchez riding Cronos D’Elle, who finished second with 68.27s. Third place went to Rodrigo Martín Garaizabal with Picasso del Ara, followed by Haizea Garmendia Ajuria with Conthargos Rouge in fourth and Daniel Ocaña Sánchez on Artemis du Gevaudan in fifth.
These results will be converted into points for the overall Championship standings. Carlos García currently leads with 0 points, followed by his brother Borja (1.18s) and Rodrigo Martín (1.41s).
Pablo Movellán López tops Junior qualifier
In the Junior division (1.25m), Pablo Movellán López from Cantabria and his mare Centina de Maeza produced the winning time of 65.60 seconds.
Second place went to Paloma Rubio Muñoz riding Bip de L’Isle (68.88s), with Izaro Junquera López and Danah in third, Marcos Belles Mari on Ange de Baerenrain in fourth, and Nicolás Cobo Terán riding Corinna completing the top five.
A strong field of 53 riders competed in this round, with 20 of them finishing on 0 penalties.
Victory for Lucía Valeros Sánchez in Children qualifier
The first Infants qualifier saw Lucía Valeros Sánchez claim victory with Vinca Jacob. She was closely followed by Alexia Dolores de la Huerga Nechaeva on Enfant Terrible NH Z in second, Ana Castro Godlewska with Polidora in third, Sara Ferrer López with Qastart Van’t Siamshof Doble R in fourth, and Lucía Pérez Gamarra on Ibsion del Maset rounding out the top five.
Familiarisation and complementary classes
Riders in the Infants* and Children categories completed their arena familiarisation today, ahead of their first competition rounds tomorrow. Similarly, the finalists of the Pony North & South Leagues had the chance to train in their competition arenas.
In the complementary classes:
- Belén Ferrándiz Alfonso with Diamond Lady SDW Z topped the podium in the 1.30m 2Ph Sp.
- Esteban Domínguez Sollheim claimed the 1.20m FT with Calido Du Lys.
- María José Marinas Sánchez won the 1.10m FT with For Ever Braveheart.
What’s next?
Competition continues tomorrow, 3rd October, with a packed programme:
- In Arena 5 Milton, the second Infant* qualifier, the first Infant qualifier, and the team qualifiers for both groups (set at 1.20m, 2Phase) will take place. Later, the second Junior and Junior* qualifiers will be held at 1.30m and 1.40m respectively.
- In Arena 8 Baloubet du Rouet , riders will compete in 1.30m and 1.20m complementary classes, as well as the first Children qualifier at 1.05m.
- In the Big Star Arena 18, the Pony Finals will begin, with competitions across categories from Ponies D (1.15m) to A2 (0.50m).
The first individual finals will take place on Saturday, 4th October, where the Spanish Jumping Champions will be crowned for the Infants, Juniors, and Juniors*. On Sunday, 5th October, the competition will conclude with the Infants* and Children finals, as well as both Juniors team finals.
