Canada takes convincing Nations Cup win in Ocala
The first qualifier in the North and Central America and Caribbean League of the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup saw the success of Team Canada yesterday in Ocala, Florida.
Six were the competitors but only three in search of points to help qualify for the Finals in Barcelona in October: Canada, Mexico and United States.
It was a hard-fought contest crowning two of the top stars in the Canadian equestrian world: the 71-year-old ten-time Olympian Ian Millar on Dixson and Rio 2016 Olympic individual bronze medallist Eric Lamaze on Coco Bongo.
After being tied with Germany by the end of round one, Canada came out best thanks to double-clears from both riders ensuring that all they had to add were single errors from team-mates Francois Lamontagne and Tiffany Foster for the winning total of eight faults.
Brazil finished second on 16, including in their team Felipe Amaral on Premiere Carthoes BZ (8/0), Fabio Leivas da Costa on Fox Trot vd Padenborre (16/12), Rodrigo Lambre atop of Coleman (0/4) and Yuri Mansur Guerios on Inferno (0/4).
