A cowardly act of violence took place at a recent show-jumping event in San Giovanni in Marignano, Italy which has rightly caused anger amongst all of the riders who were present.
Gina, a Jack Russell dog, was killed by one of the participating riders at the event in a horrific manner. The dog was reportedly beaten with a pitchfork and shoved in a bag which was then set fire to.The man behind this vicious act is said to be 33 years of age and originally from Bergamo. After an argument with his partner, he decided to take his rage out on her Jack Russell dog.
Such a disgusting act has led to an outcry from the other riders with many calling for him to be removed from the register of riders and taking the matter to the law.The Italian Equestrian Association (FISE) has since released a statement relating to the matter stating that it is looking into the issue and that it has alerted the federal prosecutor. The National Association for the Protection of Animals has also been made aware.
As mentioned, the riders present were incensed and the 33 year-old dog killer even risked being attacked by the angered riders who have animal welfare in their hearts.Unfortunately the latest and shameful event showed that not everyone thinks like this and that there is still a long battle ahead. Nevertheless the reaction from those present does offer hope and is a reminder that animal rights must be defended.
