CSI Ascona 2025: Barbara Schnieper Crowned Queen of the Grand Prix BancaStato

The CSI Ascona 2025 wrapped up its 32nd edition with an unforgettable day of show jumping, where Swiss rider Barbara Schnieper stole the spotlight. Riding Licolle, she claimed victory in the prestigious Grand Prix BancaStato, the highlight of the 4-star circuit.
A Historic Victory for Barbara Schnieper
The main course, featuring fences up to 155 cm, proved highly demanding. Only four combinations managed to complete the first round without faults. Among them, Schnieper stood out with her precision and determination. In the jump-off she not only stayed clear but also delivered the fastest round, sealing her triumph.
With this outstanding performance, the 43-year-old from Solothurn finally secured the top step of the podium after having been a consistent contender in past editions. Her name now joins the CSI Ascona winners’ list, succeeding British rider Robert Whitaker, who had won in 2023 aboard Vermento.
The Other Podium Finishers
The silver medal went to Brazilian rider João Victor Castro Aguiar Gomes De Lima with Cashpaid J\&F, followed by French competitor Nicolas Sers on Espoir de la Chesnee. Italy’s Elia Simonetti, riding Li la Bo, was the only other rider to qualify for the jump-off, but a fault in the second round kept him off the podium.
Excitement in the 2-Star Circuit
The 2-star Grand Prix, presented by Axion Swiss Bank, also offered thrilling sport. German rider Hannah Schleef with Limoncello SMH delivered a brilliant round in the jump-off, beating Britain’s James Shore on Karnak du Roset by just 16 hundredths of a second. Local fans were delighted to see Swiss rider Célia Biasi and Pandy Floss E claim third place.
The final curtain fell on another 2-star competition, rescheduled after heavy rain forced a postponement the previous day. This time, James Shore took the win with DPS Camelot, ahead of Swiss amazons Lorena Stella Hauri on E Borussia and Nadine Steffen with Q Time.
Weather Challenges at CSI Ascona 2025
Unstable weather conditions played an important role during the last weekend of the event. Overnight rain between Saturday and Sunday forced the cancellation of one of the 4-star competitions scheduled for the final day. Despite this setback, the CSI Ascona maintained its high level of sport and organization, offering spectators intense competition and memorable moments.
CSI Ascona: A Landmark in International Show Jumping
Once again, the Concours de Saut International of Ascona confirmed its reputation as one of the most prestigious events in the European equestrian calendar. Gathering top riders and horses from around the world, it provides an essential stage for athletes to showcase their skills and for fans to enjoy world-class equestrian sport.
Barbara Schnieper’s victory in the Grand Prix BancaStato, together with the exciting results across the 2-star circuit, highlighted the unique blend of tradition, competition, and entertainment that characterizes CSI Ascona. For more than three decades, the event has stood as a reference point in international show jumping, offering not only high-level sport but also a celebration of the strong bond between Ascona, horses, and their riders.
