The Italian leg of the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ presented by KASK delivered top-level sport once again at Fieracavalli Verona, with Germany’s Daniel Deusser securing a brilliant victory aboard the talented Otello de Guldenboom.

Seven years after his memorable 2018 win with Calisto Blue, Deusser returned to thrill the Italian crowd in a highly competitive jump-off. Riding the eleven-year-old stallion, a son of his iconic partner Tobago Z, Deusser delivered a masterful round. “Otello has great self-confidence, he’s very calm and approaches the fences with ease. My job is just to give him the right distance, and today he did everything perfectly,” he commented. Otello confirmed his excellent form after already winning the opening day’s speed class.

The jump-off featured seven combinations, with Germany fielding an exceptionally strong squad. Alongside Deusser were his compatriots Richard Vogel, the reigning European Champion, and Christian Kukuk, Olympic Champion, ensuring Germany dominated the final phase of the competition.

Deusser and Otello set the benchmark with a superb time of 36.13 seconds, ultimately unbeatable. Switzerland’s Alain Jufer, the last to enter with his fourteen-year-old partner Dante MM, delivered an impressive clear round in 36.92 seconds, securing second place. Christian Kukuk and Just Be Gentle followed in third with a double-clear in 37.31 seconds.

Italian fans had plenty to celebrate thanks to Emanuele Gaudiano and Esteban de Hus, who delivered a double-clear in 37.54 seconds, finishing fourth. This marks Gaudiano’s second fourth-place finish in Verona’s World Cup Grand Prix, following the one achieved in 2019 with Chalou.

Course designer Uliano Vezzani once again showcased his expertise with a demanding and beautifully balanced track, worthy of the top-level riders and horses competing. The seven combinations that reached the jump-off kept the packed audience at the Pala RAM on the edge of their seats until the very last fence.
