Eternal City primed and ready for LGCT
The curtain comes up today on the equestrian extravaganza that is the Rome leg of the 2017 Longines Global Champions Tour.
From 15.00, the five star event gets going with the standout moment coming in the form of the Global Champions League – the innovative team competition.
Flying the flag for ‘Rome Gladiator’ are Egypt’s Abdel Said and Brazil’s Marlon Modolo Zanotelli.
As for the home riders, morale is high amongst the Azzurri with the likes of Giulia Martinengo Marquet, Lorenzo De Luca and Alberto Zorzi out to give the local fans something to cheer about.
Yesterday meanwhile the action started with the CSI2* competitions with a victory a piece for France, Italy and Norway.
In the 1.10/1.15 m trial, victory went to French rider Serge Varsano while the 1.25/1.30 m competition was won by Italian star Guido Grimaldi. Norway’s Johan-Sebastian Gulliksen took the spoils in the 1.35/1.40 m competition.
It paves the way nicely for the main event today the GLOBAL CHAMPIONS LEAGUE over 1.50/1.55 m.
What’s more, fans will also be treated to a number of other side events at the Stadio dei Marmi Pietro Mennea with an exciting Polo match scheduled for 18.15 followed by the driving competition at 19.00.
