Europe’s Top Teams Ready to Battle for the Podium at Casas Novas

From July 16–20, the elite of show jumping heads to A Coruña for the 2025 Longines FEI Jumping European Championship
A Coruña, 7 July 2025 – The countdown has begun for the 2025 Longines FEI Jumping European Championship, taking place from July 16 to 20 at the prestigious Casas Novas Equestrian Center in Arteixo, A Coruña. The much-anticipated event will bring together 92 riders and the best horse-and-rider combinations from 18 countries, all vying for one of the most coveted team titles in international show jumping.
🇩🇪 Germany: the team to beat
Germany, the historical powerhouse of European show jumping, leads the all-time medal table with 71 total medals, including 29 golds. The 2025 team boasts a world-class line-up: Christian Kukuk (FEI World No. 4), Richard Vogel (No. 10), and seasoned veteran Marcus Ehning. However, a twist in the tale has unsettled predictions — Messi van’t Ruytershof, one of Germany’s top horses, has been ruled out due to injury.
🇧🇪 Belgium and 🇮🇪 Ireland arrive in top form
With Germany’s line-up shaken, other teams are ready to seize the opportunity. Belgium comes in with strong momentum, having delivered outstanding performances at recent CSI5* events. The Belgian team includes Gilles Thomas, Abdel Said, Pieter Devos, Nicola Philippaerts, and Thibault Spits.
Ireland also brings an explosive team, led by Cian O’Connor (World No. 8) and supported by Daniel Coyle, Darragh Kenny, and Bertram Allen — all capable of top performances on the biggest stage.
🇨🇭 Switzerland, 🇳🇱 the Netherlands, and 🇬🇧 Great Britain among the favorites
Switzerland, the third most decorated nation in the history of the European Championship with 44 medals, relies on the experience and consistency of Steve Guerdat and Martin Fuchs, ranked 6th and 7th in the world respectively.
The Netherlands will look to Maikel Van der Vleuten and his trusted partner Beuville Z Nop, along with Kim Emmen and Willem Greve, to carry the team forward.
Great Britain, second only to Germany in terms of historical success, enters the championship with big names like Ben Maher and Scott Brash, making them strong contenders for the podium.
🇫🇷 France and 🇸🇪 Sweden won’t stand by
France comes armed with two riders who know the Casas Novas arena well: Julien Épaillard and Kevin Staut, both capable of game-changing rounds.
And let’s not forget Sweden, the reigning team champion following their victory in Milan 2023. Even without their star Henrik von Eckermann, the Swedes will aim to defend their title with a dynamic team led by Petronella Anderson and Wilma Helsström.
