
Europe vs USA: Riders Masters Cup to debut in New York

New York is getting ready to host one of the highlights of the Longines calendar, with the Masters taking place from April 26th to 29th at the newly renovated NYCB LIVE, Home of the Nassau Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum.
Among the riders involved are some of those who took part in the FEI World Cup Finals last week in Paris. New York will be the third leg of the series after Paris and Hong Kong.
As usual, the most expected event is the Longines Speed Challenge taking place on Friday, while the following day will be dedicated to the strenght with the Masters Power Six Bars.
On Sunday the spot lights will be turned on the third leg of the Longines Masters Grand Prix of New York with the American Grand Slam, while on Saturday evening the challenge bewteen Team USA and Team Europe will come to a close in the Riders Masters Cup. Though the Euroepan squad triumphed in in Paris, the Americans are determined to take their revanche and looks favourite on their home soil.
Of course Team USA will be led into battle by 2017 World Cup champions, McLain Ward (ranked 8th) and Beezie Madden (sitting at nr. 21), along with third place and Paris last week revelation, Devin Ryan and horsewomen Lauren Hough, Laura Kraut and talented Kristen Vanderveen.
World’ Nr. 2 Harrie Smolders from Netherlands will join Team Europe, being selected by coach Philippe Guerdat to face the American squad trained by Robert Ridland in the Riders Masters Cup. Along with Smolders, European title holder and world’s Nr. 3, Peder Fredricson, will come from Sweden. French riders Kevin Staut and Patrice Delaveau will also be part of the group.
