The trials at Arezzo in the European Youth Championships were temporarily stopped due to bad weather, but today they were back on schedule with the first medals being handed out to the Young Riders category in the team event.
Germany came out on top with the stand-out rider Angelina Herroder on ABC Trixi (Quidam de Revel). The pair obtained the best results over the two rounds with a double clean run and she was also the best rider in her team.
Maurice Tebbel, after yesterday’s clean run, committed an error today on Cooper 75 (Colman). This result wasn’t kept by their coach but 4 other penalties arrived thanks to Niklas Krieg with Carella 5 (Clearway). Laura Klaphake on Nifrane de Kreisker (Carnute) scored a clean run after yesterday’s error which means the team collected a total of 8 penalties over two rounds and finished in first place.
A surprising Norway side meanwhile came in second after a near-perfect performance. 3 clean runs and the tactical astuteness of their coach paid dividends earning the team a silver medal. Their best rider was Benedikte Endresen on Super Sox (Salito) who scored a double clean run and is also in the provisional top-10 FEI rankings (5th place).
A special mention also goes to Pal Flam with Skjerabergs Larkin and Solveig Newermann on Wodka, bouncing back after yesterday’s errors to score clean runs. However, Maren Smedhaug on Caleandro (Candilo) was off the pace compared to the rest of the team and the Norway coach as a result discarded both results: 20 penalties yesterday and 9 today. Overall it meant Norway finished with 9 penalties.
There was great Equestrian World for Italian fans as the Azzurri took the final podium slot finishing ahead of some important nations such as Spain, Ireland, France, Great Britain and above all Lisa Nooren’s Holland.
Italy collected 13 penalties overall and unfortunately the errors of Filippo Marco Bologni (12 and 13, both discarded by the coach) weighed heavily upon the final result. However, the overall team performance showed the Italians were in good form, especially lady-rider Francesca Ciriesi with Que Sera and Nicolo Vincenzo Callerio on Darius with just 4 penalties in the second and first round respectively.
Matilde Giorgia Bianchi also did well coming back strong to record a clean run after yesterday’s 5 penalties. The rest of the teams finished as indicated below:
4th Spain – 16 penalties
5th France – 17 penalties
6th Sweden – 20 penalties
6th Poland – 20 penalties
8th Ireland – 25 penalties
9th Denmark – 28 penalties
10th Holland – 35 penalties
11th Belgium – 22 penalties in the first round
12th Switzerland – 30 penalties in the first round
13th Great Britain – 34 penalties in the first round
14th Austria – 40 penalties in the first round

To continue, this is how the provisional individual ranking is looking for the time being. The podium is an all-German affair: Angelina Herroder, Kaya Luthi and Laura Klaphake. In fourth place is Poland’s Zuzanna Gowin and in fifth Norway’s Benedikte Endresen.Swden’s Irma Karlsson is in sixth followed by Switzerland’s Larissa Notz in seventh.
