Fei World Cup Final 2017: Steve Guerdat

Ahead of the Fei World Cup in Omaha next week, we looks ahead to the main competitons and their horses. We start with the Swiss rider Steve Guerdat who has been riding Corbinian, the 11-year-old brown bay from the Westphalian studbook. Guerdat added Gothenburg to the title won in Las Vegas on Albfuehren’s Paille.Guerdat was born in Switzerland on 10 June 1982 and followed in his father Philippe’s footsteps. Guerdat senior has been coach of France since 2013.Nicknamed Steve Wonder his best result was a Gold Medal at the London Olympics in 2012 on Nino des Buissonnets though he could not defend the title which was won in Rio by Nick Skelton on Big Star.CORBINIAN Won a World Cup gold at a relatively young age of 10 but Corbinian comes from an extraordinary bloodline sired by Cornet Obolensky and the grandson of Pilot. Cornet Obolensky was the third-best breeder in the world in 2016 behind Diamant de Semilly and For Pleasure.Voted Swiss horse of 2016, Corbinian has been living up to its early promise and breeder Ralf Bluggel always insisted it was destined for great things when he sold the horse to Fabio Crotta who worked on its development before Guerdat and his manager Thomas Fuchs stepped in and acquired it in 2014.photo: SUI Steve GUERDAT Rio 2016Photo Richard Juilliart(MC)
