Fei World Cup in Gothenburg decisive for Paris
We are on the eve of the last qualifying opportunity for the 2018 World Cup final and Paris awaits the best pairs in the world. In the European division, for many riders the last test will be the CSI5 * -W in Gothenburg this week.
We jave crossed Europe through Oslo where the German Daniel Deusser opened the season with a victory, we went from Helsinki (Jur Vrieling), Verona (Maikel van der Vleuten), Lyon (Simon Delestre), Stuttgart (Steve Guerdat), Madrid (Roger – Yves Bost), La Coruna (Edwina Tops-Alexander), London (Julien Epaillard), Mechelen (Harrie Smolders), Leipzig (Christian Ahlmann), Zurich (Stephanie Holmen) and Bordeaux (Pieter Devos).
With three victories in the season (Delestre, Epaillard and Bost) and top of the general classification (Kevin Staut with 79 points), the most in-form riders season in the European division seem to be the French star, followed by the Dutch (three wins also for the oranje, in Vrieling, van der Vleuten and Smolders).
Following the Germans with two victories (Deusser and Ahlmann), but after the victory by the young rider Stephanie Holmen in Zurich (difficult qualification for this rider with only 20 points in the 34th place in the standings will be played throughout the season in Gothenburg), the surprise in the final after the 2017 European Championships could once again come from Sweden: attention must be paid to second in the general classification Henrik von Eckermann, already qualified with 64 points and regular placements for him during the season, in Gothenburg is compatriot Peder Fredricson, who is in the running for Paris.
Outside the radar, however, most of the British riders, surprisingly missing victories in the World Cup season and with only Michael Whitaker able to gain access to the final (15th place for him in the overall ranking).
Good chance for the Italian Alberto Zorzi, the Paduan rider is well placed with 45 points in 12th place in the general classification, while Lorenzo De Luca in 24th place with 29 points will have to jostle to get to Paris as well as Piergiorgio Bucci, 26th with 28 points.
Gothenburg will finally tell us who the European protagonists will be for the 42nd World Cup final.
