Final stage of Youth World Championship at Le Lion d’Angers
The six-year-old World Championship is on stage at Haras Nationaux this weekend, with today’s showjumping session to follow up yesterday’s cross country test.
A thick crowd arrived early this morning to secure a place at the side of the course and enjoy the first event featuring the six-year-old category.
The course arranged by Pierre Michelet on 4.640 metres included 21 fences and 30 jumps, with the involved pairs having 8’46“ to finish off. Thirty-three of these made it to the finish line. Three falls with no serious injuries took place, and Italy’s Roberto Consumati riding Soccore was involved in one of these.
After today’s round, Britain star Izzy Taylor leads the overall ranking with Monkeying Around, followed by Australian Paul Tapner with Bob Chaplin and Ireland’s Elizabeth Power riding DSL Entertainer.
Just after was the time of the seven-year-old horses who were involved in a more difficult course: 5100 metres to be finished in 9’17“ with 23 fenches and 35 jumps.
Also in this category there were no big changes in the overall ranking, with stunning New Zealand’s pair made up of James Avery and Vitali firmly on top with 43.6 points. Britain’s Mary King riding Chilli Morning’s son, King Robert, did really well and moved up to second place with 44.3 points. Third place was Christopher Button with Lawtown Boy. The Australian had been bronze medal in team eventing in Rio Olympics 2016.
