Gorla: Double Victory for Belgium’s Frederic Vernaet

The final day of the CSIO3* at Gorla opened in the Arena Equinoxe Mascheroni with the Belgian rider taking both first and second place in the 140 class, while the podium was completed by fellow countryman Tim Prouve.
After several days of sunshine, Sunday, April 27, started under grey skies with a few drops of rain.
Frederic Vernaet Takes First and Second Place
At the Equieffe Equestrian Centre, the final day of the CSIO3* weekend got underway under a light drizzle, but that didn’t stop Frederic Vernaet from dominating the CSIO3* 140 Porrini class.
The course, designed by Andrea Colombo, featured 11 obstacles with 13 efforts, spanning 460 meters and to be completed within a maximum time of 79 seconds.
A total of 36 horse-and-rider combinations lined up at the start.
Riding third in the order, Vernaet immediately set the standard by completing a clear round in 54.22 seconds aboard the mare Okina Van De Bien (Toulon x Blue Boy V. Berkenbroeck).

Compatriot Tim Prouve gave it a try with Artist VD Guldennagel-V (Asca Z x Connor), posting a clear round in 54.62 seconds to move into provisional second place.

No one else came close to challenging the leader — until Vernaet entered the ring once more as the second-to-last competitor, this time riding the grey Olleke Bolleke JW VD Moerhove (Kannan x Nabab de Rêve).
He delivered another clear round, this time improving on his earlier performance with an even faster time of 54.22 seconds, thus securing both first and second place for himself and completing an all-Belgian podium.
The top five was rounded out by Germany’s Clara Blau with Calido’s Blue (56.49 seconds) and Italy’s Massimo Grossato riding Mr Obolensky VG (57.35 seconds).
