From polo to showjumping, strong results and first Junior Nations Cup call-up, the rapid rise of Gabriel Zagni Minucci

From his early days in polo to his latest results in showjumping, Gabriel Zagni Minucci’s journey shows clear progress, focus and a strong connection with horses. Now in his first year as a junior, the young rider is emerging as one of Italy’s most promising talents.

“I started in 2021 with polo, because my father worked on a nearby estate,” Gabriel explains. “I immediately became passionate about horses and sport. After a few months, during the winter break, I moved to a local yard where they did showjumping. That’s when I realised it was the right path for me”.

The transition was quick. “It’s a completely different sport. The technique and position change, but I adapted fast and improved quickly”.

A key role in his development has been his trainer. “Andrea Franchi has taught me a lot of technique, but above all confidence. He helped me approach courses knowing I could do them. He was very important in the early years and still is today. He supports and motivates me every day”.

His children career brought important results. “The result I am most proud of is the silver medal at the Italian Championships. It was with a horse I was very attached to. She gave me confidence and trust”.

The partnership with his horse has been central to his progress. “We had to stop for three years due to a health issue. I started competing with her in 2024, starting from the basics. We grew together and achieved good results in our first year in CSIO Junior competitions, including a bronze medal at the Italian Championships”.

The 2025 season started well. “We had a good result at the Test Event, finishing fourth. Now I have been selected for the team in Belgium. I am very happy with how things are going”.

His goals for the season are clear. “I am working to be in top form for the next CSIOs. I would like the chance to compete at the European Championships and continue improving”.

Looking ahead, his ambitions are set. “My goal is to become a top-level rider, to have my own stable and to work in the international horse trade. I want to reach the level of my idols”.

His progress is steady, his results are building, and his Nations Cup selection confirms Gabriel Zagni Minucci as a name to watch in Italian showjumping.
