Georgia Tame: Building Future Grand Prix Horses at the Sunshine Tour
British showjumper Georgia Tame is steadily establishing herself as one of the emerging riders on the international circuit. Known for developing young horses into top-level competitors, Tame is currently spending several weeks competing at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour, using the competition as a platform to build experience for a promising group of horses.
Developing a Talented String of Horses
Tame has brought a mix of young and experienced horses to the tour, focusing primarily on building confidence and gradually increasing their level.
“I’ve got a really exciting bunch of horses here,” she says. “I’ve got two seven-year-olds, three eight-year-olds and one twelve-year-old.”
The older horse in her string has recently taken a significant step forward in competition. Tame previously rode the horse when it was younger while working for top British rider Scott Brash.
“I actually rode him as a six-year-old when I was working for Scott Brash, and I bought him at the end of last year,” she explains. “He stepped up last week to jump his first Grand Prix and he was double clear.”
The Sunshine Tour, which attracts riders from around the world each winter, offers ideal conditions for training young horses through multiple weeks of competition.
“It’s been great here to slowly build them up and grow them in confidence,” Tame says. “Now they’re all getting to the level where they need to be.”
Career Highlights on the International Stage
Although still early in her senior career, Tame has already competed at some of the sport’s most prestigious venues and represented Great Britain in Nations Cup competition.
One standout moment came at the renowned CHIO Aachen, widely considered one of the most prestigious shows in the sport.
“My biggest highlight was definitely Aachen last year,” she says. “I jumped B Golden Lynx in the Nations Cup. We had one time fault in both rounds, but it was incredible.”
Competing in such high-level events has helped solidify Tame’s reputation as a rider capable of performing on the international stage.
Building Her Own Operation
Recently, Tame began a new chapter in her career by establishing her own training and competition yard. The move allows her to focus on producing horses with a long-term strategy toward top competitions.
“I recently set up by myself at the end of last year,” she explains. “Now it’s about building these horses up.”
Her goal is to bring the young horses to peak form over the next few seasons.
“Hopefully next year, when they’re nine, we can aim for some Nations Cups and Grand Prix with them.”
Looking Ahead
With a developing string of talented horses and a new independent setup, Georgia Tame’s focus remains on careful progression and consistent results. The Sunshine Tour represents an important step in preparing both rider and horses for the international competitions ahead.
As the season continues, Tame’s methodical approach to producing horses could see her return to the sport’s biggest arenas in the near future.
