Germany on alert over herpes virus

For several weeks some northern regions of Germany have been on alert for the presence of equine influenza and the herpes virus, after the cases identified last week in the stables of dressage rider Ingrid Klimke. Now further viral cases have been reported: one of herpes virus in Biedenbuttel after previous cases in Luhmulen in February.
The horse is on the way to recovery, its condition has been revealed by the presence of fever and then confirmed by laboratory analysis.
It is recommended again to those who have purchased or received in their stables horses from the northern parts of Germany to pay close attention and check the parameters of health of the horses: presence of fever, lack of appetite and apathy may be symptoms of the viral diseases in progress, suspected cases should be isolated and carefully monitored with a trusted veterinarian.
