Global Champions Tour: Beerbaum comes out on top in the battle between legends at Lausanne.

The Lausanne stage of the Global Champions Tour has come to an end and has resulted in a victory by the legend with a capital ‘L’ Ludger Beerbaum on Chaman.
The latest stage of the GCT was a real head to head battle with another legend of show-jumping Sir John Whitaker on Argento who in the end had to settle for second place.
The final podium slot went to Argentina’s Jose Maria Larocca with GDE Matrix.
The course designed by Luc Musette put even some of the most experienced riders in difficulty as Rolf Goran Bengtsson on talented but still inexperienced Clarimo Ask knocked down two barriers. Another favourite Scott Brash retired half way through the first run after 8 penalties with Hello Annie.
5 pairs made it through to the jump-off. One of these was Gerco Schroder on the grey Holsteiner Cognac Champblanc and the pair gave a precise performance to take the provisional lead after a clear run in 40 seconds. However, it was then the turn of Ludger Beerbaum with KWPN Chaman (Baloubet du Rouet) who swept aside the previous score recorded by his rival with a time of 37.50 to bring out a huge smile from the German legend.
John Whitaker was the next to take to the field and made it a nervous wait for Beerbaum because the British rider made no errors with Argento (Arko III), but in the end he was marginally slower recording a time of 38.31. Larocca was the last of the finalists to go through the course on GDE Matrix to take an excellent third place in 39.16.
