Great Britain Ends 29-Year Wait with BMO Nations’ Cup Victory as Duchess of Edinburgh Looks On

Calgary (Canada), September 7, 2025 – Great Britain made history at Spruce Meadows, winning the prestigious BMO Nations’ Cup for the first time in nearly three decades. Adding to the significance of the moment, the Duchess of Edinburgh was in attendance on British Day, celebrating alongside the team.
Under the guidance of Chef d’Equipe Di Lampard, the squad of Matthew Sampson, Ben Maher, Joseph Stockdale and Donald Whitaker delivered a flawless performance: two rounds with 0 faults to secure a long-awaited victory after 29 years.
Germany and USA Complete the Podium
A total of eleven nations entered the competition, with six advancing to the second round: Germany, Great Britain, the United States, Ireland, Belgium, and Brazil.
Germany came close to the win but a costly final rail from Richard Vogel relegated the team to second place, finishing with 4 faults and a combined time of 232.56 seconds.
The United States also closed on 4 faults but a slower time (234.34 seconds) pushed them into third place.
With this victory, Great Britain strengthens its position as a powerhouse in international show jumping, following its Olympic team gold and European silver medal earlier this season.
