Gstaad Palace claims victory at the 27th Hublot Polo Gold Cup

Gstaad, August 24, 2025 – Against the breathtaking backdrop of the Swiss Alps, the 27th Hublot Polo Gold Cup came to a close this Sunday with Gstaad Palace taking center stage in a memorable final.
Team captain Markus Graeff, at 73 years old, led his team with pride and composure:
“I’m the oldest player on the field – at least twenty years older than most – but I’m delighted I could play my part. Polo is a team sport, and everyone delivered. Playing here in Gstaad is always a pleasure, and if I’m invited again next year, I’ll be back.”
His son Thommy Graeff thrilled the crowd with two goals, including a spectacular finish, while Argentine star Martin ‘Min’ Podestá stole the spotlight with four goals and was named both MVP and top scorer of the tournament (10 goals). Alongside them, Francisco Fucci completed the winning lineup.
The final score – 7–4 in favor of Gstaad Palace (1-0 / 3-1 / 6-3 / 7-4) – reflected their control of the match, built on a solid defense and flawless teamwork.
Doma Simoca crowned Best Playing Pony
Behind every great player stands an exceptional horse. Podestá brought six of his best mounts from the UK, and it was his nine-year-old grey mare Doma Simoca, bred at La Irenita, who earned the title of Best Playing Pony of the Final.
“She’s generous, tireless, and always gives her best,” Podestá said. “She’s already won several BPP awards, and this recognition is another testament to her quality.”
An atmosphere like no other
The final day in Gstaad had something truly magical: a blend of polo’s fierce competitiveness with the serenity of the alpine setting. Former captains, loyal spectators, and first-time visitors all shared in the charm of an event that has become unique on the international polo circuit.
Much of this spirit is owed to Pierre E. Genecand, who for over twenty years has shaped the tournament with Swiss precision, passion for sport, and warm hospitality.
The 2025 edition closes with two Swiss – Markus and Thommy Graeff – and two Argentinians – Podestá and Fucci – standing proudly on the podium.
The next chapter is already set: August 20–23, 2026, the Hublot Polo Gold Cup will once again return to the peaks of Gstaad.
