Íñigo López de la Osa Franco: A historic pioneer
The 22‑year‑old rider is already set to become the first competitive figurehead of Monaco’s equestrian tradition.
It is an important year for the Principality of Monaco, which has finally become an active sporting nation in international show jumping. The pioneer is Inigo Lopez de la Osa Franco: the first Monegasque rider to compete in the Global Champions League, the World Cup, and the upcoming 2026 World Championships in Aachen. What Inigo is accomplishing goes far beyond mere participation: he is shaping a true national sporting identity.
For years, Monaco has been a prestigious venue of the Longines Global Champions Tour — the Formula 1 of show jumping — thanks in part to the deep passion the royal family has for equestrian sport, with both Princess Caroline of Monaco and Charlotte Casiraghi being devoted riders. Until now, however, the Principality lacked a strong competitive tradition in show jumping. With the 22‑year‑old rider, Monaco is no longer just a prestigious backdrop for equestrian sport, but an active protagonist in the arena.
