Islander Project backs Horses in Prison scheme

The latest initiative by the Islander Project and its staff of volunteers has been in Busto Arsizio, where from May 29 to June 1 at the facilities of the Etrea Sport Horses, the Lombardy Regional Championships were held.
Near the competition area, a gazebo set up with great photos of Francesca de Fazio, and lots of colorful t-shirts, caps and wristbands with the logo of the association. Visitors and new members were welcomed by the President Bicole Berlusconi and the smiles of the volunteers who explained the Islander Project and how it is growing in Italy and abroad to engage the public in this very current topic related to abuse and neglect of horses.
The Association has not only been raising funds to help find homes for horses but it has also been increasing awareness but the rights of animals in general and the interest of the public at the stands was a concrete demonstration that the simple purchase of a t-shirt or other item can help the welfare of a horse with donations going to the Italian Horse Protection who played their role at the unsavory events in Colleferro, the biggest seizure ever in Italy by the Italian Animal Protection agency.Special thanks must go to the Regional Committee who immediately responded to the benefit message, making its resources available and helping to pass on the message of solidarity for less fortunate horses.
The next frontier is raising funds for prison horses, and in particular the Bollate penitentiary which started in 2007 and currently has a dozen horses, used for the recovery and social rehabilitation and employment of those serving prison sentences through a training course for Artieri equestrians.
