Italy on show as Roma gets going with international show jumping

All ready for “Cavalli a Roma“. Hall 3 is preparing to welcome, from Friday 16 February, the International Show Jumping. First horse out will be at 9.30, for the 115 category timed. Twelve hours of international hurdles will follow until the first day is closed with the “high“ competition, measured over 1.40m. The category will start with live streaming by Massimiliano Menegon. Instead, Carlo Rotunno will be the public announcer during the horse show.In the list of starters stands out the name of Gianni Govoni, a rider who counts participation in two Olympic Games and three World Championships. He was full of praise for course designer Uliano Vezzani: “I’ve known him for a lifetime, we came through together, so to speak, since I was six years old and he was already in competitions. Uliano is one of the best field directors in the world. His routes create difficulties without asking for efforts on the horses .“Cavalli a Roma“ is for Govoni : “An excellent launch pad for the programming of the year. It will be an important test for my new horse, we go into it with optimism, and for my juniors who need experience.
It is fundamental to be able to count on an event that from a scenographic and technical point of view, replicates the big events around the world.”There are high Azzurri expectations that the arena of “Cavalli a Roma“ is ready to welcome Gabriele Grassi, a rider who boasts a 2010 World Cup. The Tuscan athlete, registered in Lazio, transferred to Emilia Romagna by Licinio Grossi, owner of Lintea Tequila, a mare that was once sold to Edwina Tops Alexander and has established itself as one of the best in the world, gaining 9th place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, under the saddle of the Australian. Among the mounts entrusted to Grassi there is Clarico, a horse that at Piazza di Siena in 2017 led the outsider Claudio Delnevo to touching distance of the Grand Prix, committing a single mistake but demonstrated its great competitiveness to be called up to several Nations Cups. “At Cavalli in Rome – said Gabriele Grassi – I did not bring Clarico because for him I have a program that starts outdoors. Here in Rome, however, I will mount three exceptional horses and I will do it with a renewed competitive spirit, knowing full well that I am part of a passionate and competent team. I share with Licinio Grossi the intention to compete for Italy in Italy. That said, the sacrifices are not lacking, since my daughter and my wife are in Rome. For this I want to thank my partner. There is, moreover, a sporting goal that does not demand any sacrifice and must be taken in an ethical manner. Paradoxically, I notice that equestrian ethics are progressively disappearing. We professionals, however, must fight for horse riding to be the first true bearer of values, as it used to be .”
