Day three of Jumping Mechelen 2025 began with a palpable sense of anticipation in the Nekkerhal. Dressage enthusiasts were treated to a morning of top-level sport as the FEI Dressage World Cup Grand Prix presented by De Baian got underway at 8.00 a.m. Belgium immediately made its presence felt, claiming victory and delivering several strong performances from home riders.

Entering the arena as the final Belgian combination, Larissa Pauluis partnered her experienced and trusted horse Flambeau (Ampère x Zeoliet | KWPN). The long-established partnership between rider and horse was clearly visible, with harmony and confidence evident throughout the test. The judges rewarded that consistency and quality with a score of 73.91%, securing a well-deserved victory for the Belgian pair.

Verboomen back on the podium

European Champion and world number one Justin Verboomen finished in second place with Djembe de Hus (Damon Hill x Argentinus | OLD), a horse that has only recently joined his stable. The work put in over the past months is clearly paying off, as the pair delivered a polished and well-executed test, earning 73.07% in the Christmas Arena.

Tension until the end

International competition came from Portugal’s João Pedro Moreira, who presented the ten-year-old Drosa Fürst Kennedy (Fürstenlook x Don Kennedy | OLD) with elegance and precision. His performance was rewarded with 72.54%, securing third place. Just outside the podium, Marieke van der Putten finished fourth with Zantana RS2 OLD N.O.P. (Zonik N.O.P. x Sir Donnerhall | OLD), scoring 72.13%.

A strong Belgian morning

A solid sixth place for Wim Verwimp, who produced a convincing test with Jedai de Massa (Don Juan de Hus x Galopin de la Font | PSH) after several years away from World Cup level, rounded off a memorable morning for the host nation. This Grand Prix proved to be a true Belgian highlight, delighting the home crowd and once again confirming Jumping Mechelen as a key fixture on the international dressage calendar.
