LGCT Miami kicks off the 2026 season: high expectations for the Florida opener
The countdown is almost over: this weekend the Longines Global Champions Tour will land in Miami for the event officially opening the 2026 season. As tradition dictates, it promises top sport, strong competition, and a stellar lineup of some of the world’s best riders.
The ever-glamorous American setting will host a truly international field, with a broad and highly competitive representation from across the globe.
Among the standout names is Australia’s Edwina Tops-Alexander, a regular presence on the circuit and a consistent performer at the highest level. She will be challenged by Austria’s Max Kühner, one of the most reliable riders on the international stage in recent years.
Belgium arrives as a powerhouse team, led by Pieter Devos, Jérôme Guéry, and Gilles Thomas, alongside a new generation increasingly making its mark.
Strong contenders also include Brazil’s Eduardo Pereira de Menezes and Canada’s Erynn Ballard, while Chile is represented by the experienced Samuel Parot.
Eyes will also be on France’s Simon Delestre, always competitive in top-level events, and on a strong German squad featuring Philipp Weishaupt and Katrin Eckermann.
The Irish team, as often happens, looks particularly deep and dangerous, led by Cian O’Connor and Darragh Kenny, alongside rising talents ready to challenge at the top level.
Italy will be represented by Piergiorgio Bucci and Clara Pezzoli, both aiming to perform on a track that will demand precision, speed, and careful strategy.
The home crowd will look to Kent Farrington, supported by riders such as Georgina Bloomberg and Kaitlin Campbell.
Not to be overlooked are the Netherlands with Maikel van der Vleuten and Great Britain’s Olympic champion Ben Maher.
With such a competitive field, the Miami leg promises to be a crucial early test for the season standings. Between expected confirmations and potential surprises, the LGCT is ready to begin under the banner of world-class sport.
The 2026 season is underway—now it’s time for the arena to speak.
