London Knights set the pace at the Global Champions League in Shanghai

The big event this week was in Shanghai, as the Asian metropolis hosted the third stage of the Longines Global Champions Tour 2018, with proceedings starting on Friday 20 April. Among the day’s winners were Brazilian Marlon Modolo Zanotelli, riding Extra van Essene, in the two-round 1.50m trial which preceded the first team match of the Global Champions League. Following the first match the London Knights team leads the rankings thanks to the stellar performances of Ben Maher Emily Moffitt.
Maher also shined in the individual rankings, setting the best time on the aptly names Explosion W. While Moffitt, riding Tommy, impressed as the under-25 representative.
The occasion also saw the return to the field of a Ludger Beerbaum, who was back in action in the CSI5* following the broken arm he sustained in the Mechelen CSI5*-W which kept him sidelined for most of the indoor season. Beerbaum represented the Berlin Eagles, along with his pupil Christian Kukuk, and the duo were the only team aside from the London Knights to end the trial without errors.
Third in the temperorary rankigns is team Chantilly, made up of Roger-Yves Bost and Dayro Arroyave, who picked up 4 penalties.
The enthusiastic Asian crowd was a great sign of the growing popularity of the sport on the continent, and in China in particular.
