Longines CHI Classics Basel 2026: First Top Riders Announced
The 2026 edition of the Longines CHI Classics Basel, scheduled from 8 to 11 January, is already shaping up to be an unmissable event. Organizers have revealed the first group of international stars set to compete in the St. Jakobshalle, promising top-level sport and an exceptional atmosphere.
Isabell Werth leads the lineup: the “Queen of Dressage” returns to Basel
Among the first confirmed athletes is Isabell Werth, the German legend widely considered the greatest dressage rider of all time. With seven Olympic gold medals and more than thirty world and European titles, Werth stands as the undisputed authority of the sport. Her presence guarantees technical excellence and a strong draw for spectators.
A world-class field in show jumping
The show jumping roster will be equally impressive, featuring some of the world’s top combinations. Julien Épaillard, winner of the 2025 World Cup Final in Basel with Donatello d’Auge, has confirmed his participation.
Joining him are:
- Martin Fuchs, Aachen champion and one of Switzerland’s most celebrated riders
- Steve Guerdat, Olympic champion and international show jumping icon
- Yuri Mansur, consistently among the leading riders on the global circuit
- Marcus Ehning, the renowned and highly accomplished German rider
Together, they promise a competition rich in excitement and elite performances.
Long-term commitment from key sponsors
The organizers have also announced crucial support from long-standing partners for the coming years. Among the confirmed sponsors are Range Rover, the prestigious Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois, Gerüstbau Nordwest, Zollagentur Krafft, media partner CH Media, and the St. Jakobshalle, which has extended its contract until 2031.
These renewals highlight the event’s solidity and its importance within the international equestrian calendar. Tickets for the 15th edition of the Longines CHI Classics Basel are now available.
Award of Honour goes to Linda Southern-Heathcott
The 2026 event will also celebrate a special milestone: the “Award of Honour der CHI Classics Basel” will be presented to Linda Southern-Heathcott, a central figure at Spruce Meadows, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
Built and developed by the Southern family over two generations in Calgary, Spruce Meadows has become a cornerstone of international show jumping. Linda Southern-Heathcott, who successfully leads the venue into the future, was also recently awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal, a further tribute to her long-standing dedication to equestrian sport and to the global horse community.
