Longines Global Champions Tour heads to the capital

unnamed 5 3 1

The Longines Global Champions Tour is once again ready to bring its international stars and riders to the Roman arena of the Stadio dei Marmi. The highly anticipated event in the Italian capital will be taking place between September 21 to September 24.
What’s more, this will be the last and decisive leg of the most prestigious tour on the planet before the big final in Doha in Qatar. The Rome leg follows on from a host of hard fought and exciting legs across the globe with athletes previously stopping-off in 13 destinations across the world.
The Italians have grabbed a slice of the limelight too this year.
Lorenzo De Luca claimed victory in Shanghai and Valkenswaard while Alberto Zorzi has really been impressing. It means that the latter is in third place in the overall rankings with 255 points while the former is fifth on 243.50 points. Leading the way meanwhile is Dutch star Harrie Smolders with 268 points.
De Luca and Zorzi will be out to make good use of home advantage then to boost their chances of the title and backed by the home fans will be more motivated than ever to collect precious points in the standings. Their efforts have certainly helped put the Made in Italy brand firmly back on the map.
Riders can still register but a number of big names have already confirmed their attendance such as European champion Peder Fredricson and the LGCT leader Harrie Smolders. For more, see here: www.globalchampionstour.com
