Lucas Porter Makes a Winning Return with Vigakata at Wellington International
Wellington, Fla. – A successful comeback for Lucas Porter, who claimed victory aboard his 14-year-old mare Vigakata in the Florida Coast Equipment CSI2* Speed during Week 3 of the Winter Equestrian Festival 2026 at Wellington International.
Porter’s 2025 WEF season had been cut short due to a serious shoulder injury. After months of rest and rehabilitation, he returned to competition in August 2025. “It’s a tough injury to come back from and it takes a long time to recover, but I’m super happy to be back,” Porter said.
Over a course designed by Canada’s Peter Grant, Porter stopped the clock in 71.62 seconds to secure the win. Germany’s Zoe Hank Conter finished second in 72.11 seconds aboard Melodie-K van’t Kattenheye, while Alejandro Karolyi of Venezuela completed the podium in 74.27 seconds with Tempual LS for owner Wins Equestrian Group.
Purchased by the Porter family as a seven-year-old, Vigakata (Vigo D’Arsouilles STX) has been partnered with Lucas for the past three years after he took over the ride from his brother Wilton. “She’s a lovely horse—scopey, reliable, and overall a great mare,” Porter said of the Sleepy P Ranch BV-owned horse.
