Mckayla Langmeier Bests the Field in the $75,000 Dodd Technologies Grand Prix at Wellington International
Wellington, Fla. – Mckayla Langmeier capped off the opening week of the Winter Equestrian Festival in style, claiming victory in the $75,000 Dodd Technologies Grand Prix at Wellington International.
Riding Jiselle NS, Langmeier delivered the only clear round in a three-horse jump-off over the Eric Hasbrouck–designed track. Returning last, the 25-year-old rider from East Granby, Connecticut, adjusted her plan after seeing rails from her competitors, opting for a safer approach to secure the win.
“Once I knew I was clear through the first part, I could take a moment to the last jump,” Langmeier explained. “It’s a great way to start the season.”
Jiselle NS, a 12-year-old daughter of Balou du Rouet, was bred by the Jacobs family’s North Star Sport Horses. Langmeier has partnered the mare since she was six years old, a long-term relationship that paid dividends at the five-star venue. Trained by six-time U.S. Olympian McLain Ward, Langmeier stopped the clock at 42.459 seconds.
Although both Jacqueline Ruyle aboard Cyramo Z and Lillie Keenan with Happy Time posted faster times, a rail apiece relegated them to second and third place respectively.
Still considered one of the sport’s rising talents, Langmeier reflected on the journey behind the result:
“It takes patience, time, and a lot of work put into the horses. That’s what builds the partnership and makes days like this possible. Winning a grand prix with a horse you’ve brought along is incredibly rewarding.”
