At the opening stage of the Morocco Royal Tour in Tetouan, some of the world’s best riders gathered to compete in one of the most anticipated show jumping circuits of the season. Among them was Ramzy Al Duhami, one of the most accomplished figures in international equestrian sport.

“It’s one of my favorite tours,” said Ramzy. “It’s also part of our World Cup qualification league, so it’s very important for us to be here. Every year, we see more and more competition — top riders are coming from all over the world. The conditions are perfect, and it’s a great place to bring our best horses.”

Highlights and Favorite Stages

“They’re all favorites,” he smiled. “Each stage is different and gives us a chance to compete with different horses. Of course, I have a special memory from the Nations Cup Grand Prix, which I won last year — that one has a good spot in my heart.”

Memories from a Legendary Career

“Of course, when you win a medal it’s unforgettable,” said Ramzy. “But one of my favorite memories was the Hong Kong Olympics during the Beijing Games. It was spectacular — the organization was amazing. Every Olympics has its own challenge, but that one was really special.”

Current Horses and New Talent

“At the moment, my top horse is Untouchable 32,” he explained. “I also have new, up-and-coming horses like Age Secret by Boys, who has a lot of quality but needs more mileage. Then I have two nice speed horses — Addressy and Can She Bear — that can do smaller Grand Prix events. Hopefully, we’ll add one more horse soon, as my old horse is going to retire.”

“I don’t push my horses too much. It’s nice to have a high ranking, but I prefer to keep them fresh for the big championships. That’s what matters most.”

Goals and Dreams Ahead

“The championships are my main goal,” he said. “We always keep dreaming — that’s what keeps us going. For me, the Olympics will always be the dream I want to achieve again.”

The Morocco Royal Tour and the Growth of Equestrian Sport

“It’s very important,” Ramzy affirmed. “Morocco started this tour a long time ago, and they’ve been leaders in the region. Now you can see the sport growing everywhere — in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar — all organizing great tours. It’s becoming more popular and that’s essential for the development of the sport, especially across Africa and the Arab world.”

Passing on Experience to the Next Generation

“I have a riding stable that’s been around for forty years,” he said. “Me and my brothers used to be active there. Now, I focus on sharing what I’ve learned and finding the right products and management systems for our horses.”

“Professional stables are very important for developing young riders and horses. We need to guide them, teach them to respect their horses, and understand the sport the right way. That’s our role — to build a new generation that treats horses well and represents the sport with respect.”

Advice for Young Riders

“I’d be very happy to see more young riders come up and even surpass us,” Ramzy concluded. “They need good role models and the right guidance. I had many top riders I looked up to, and my ambition was always to be like them. If you have a rider you admire, watch what they do — and try to do the same.”
