Polo to be included into the Winter Olympic Sports

On Friday, December 1st, the 35th General Meeting of the International Federation of Polo took place in Buenos Aires and it finally approved the FISE proposal to candidate Polo as Winter Olympic Sport with the aim of including it in the 2022 Winter Games in Bejing.Snow Polo has been practiced in different countries around the world but every national team could approach it because the only difference with polo lies in the ground.Following to this candidacy, there will be a long road to get the approval from the International Olympics Committee. In the meanwhile, further discussions will take place ahead of the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang and the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Argentina, where Polo will be only a demonstration discipline.The Federation of International Polo will follow up with promotion activicties, including the creation of a dedicated committee to develop the Olympic project. FISE General Secretary, Simone Perillo, along with Chief of the Polo Department, Alessandro Giachetti, will be involved in it.
Italy will be in the spotlight in September 2018 with the organisation of the European Championships of Polo in one of the most suggestive regions of the country, Tuscany.
