Richard Vogel Wins the Cardel Homes Cup at CSIO5* Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’

Calgary (AB), September 3, 2025 – Reigning European Champion Richard Vogel (GER) once again proved his world-class form by winning the Cardel Homes Cup 1.55m at the prestigious Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ CSIO5*.
A field of 60 competitors tackled the challenging course designed by FEI Course Designer Leopoldo Palacios (VEN): 11 obstacles with 15 jumping efforts, under a time allowed of 72 seconds. Despite the technical demands, 14 combinations produced clear rounds to advance to the jump-off.
The final showdown came down to a thrilling battle between two of the sport’s top-ranked riders: Richard Vogel, currently world no. 4, and Steve Guerdat (SUI), ranked no. 8. Both delivered double clears, but Vogel, riding Phenyo van het Keysersbos, secured victory with a lightning-fast 38.93 seconds, edging out Guerdat and Albfuehren’s Iashin Sitte, who stopped the clock at 39.29 seconds.
Winner’s Words
“Once you actually get to the show, it’s so many things also outside the arena that makes it so special. The place (Spruce Meadows) itself has a very special environment and kind of a chemistry that you really feel once you step in. It’s always very nice to come back, and I think the horses really like it too and recognize very quickly: oh, we’re back in Spruce.” – Richard Vogel (GER)
