Rolex Grand Slam: double for Philipp Wesihaupt and LB Convall victorious also in Cagliari

Philipp Weishaupt has claimed his second career win in a Rolex Grand Prix, following the the on in Aachen in 2016. At both the Aachen event and the one in Calgary that finished on Sunday December, Weishaupt rode to success on LB Convall.
The most recent win sees the German put back into contention for the Rolex Grand Slam, as the German rider and his mount were the only pairing to have completed the 1.70m trial with a double zero, putting Weishaupt ahead of Portuguese rider Luciana Diniz, on Fit For Fun 13, and American rider Mclain Ward, on HH Azur.
Over 87,000 fans turned out for the grand event in Calgary, as the stage was set for the stars to to compete. The top 43 names from world of equestrianism went head-to-head in the Canadian challenge to secure a place in the race for the Rolex Grand Slam, which so far has only by Scott Brash.
The trial was set up by course designer Leopoldo Palacios, who set up the 1.70m obstacles. The most highly anticipated riders at the event were the reigning champ Brash, as well as Gregory Wathelet, winner of this year’s Aachen event, and American riders McLain Ward and Kent Farrington.
The event was particularly challenging, as clear rounds were very hard to complete, with Wesihaupt being the only person to manage one. After the event the 32-year-comment that last year’s triumph was a pleasant surprise, while this year’s Rolex GP win was a wonderful confirmation of the quality of his horses, with whom he has a wonderful rapport.
Philipp Weishaupt will be on the field again in the Rolex GP in December in Genevea, where he starts off as the leader of the rankings and favourite to claim the Rolex Grand Slam jackpot.
