Salone del Cavallo Americano 2025: Europe’s Reining and Western Capital returns to Cremona

The show kicked off yesterday, and until May 25th, Cremona Fiere will once again become the beating heart of the western equestrian world as it hosts the 38th edition of the Salone del Cavallo Americano. This event has become an international benchmark for fans of American riding disciplines, and this year promises to deliver high-stakes excitement, world-class performances, and total immersion in the Made-in-USA lifestyle.
All eyes are on tonight’s highlight: the NRHA European Futurity, the crown jewel of the sporting calendar, boasting a staggering one-million-dollar prize purse! It’s the most anticipated event of the European reining scene. Already a record-holder as the only reining competition in Europe with a million-dollar purse, the Cremona stop reaffirms its status as a must-attend for breeders, trainers, and riders of international caliber.
The full lineup of categories sanctioned by the National Reining Horse Association is on the schedule — from Futurity Open and Non Pro to Level 1–4 divisions — showcasing four-year-old horses born and bred in Europe. The classes will follow official NRHA patterns, demanding technical precision, balance, control, and flawless harmony between horse and rider. The venue’s main arena will transform into a true stage for rising stars.
In addition to reining, two classic ranch-work disciplines will take the spotlight: Cutting and Team Penning. In Cutting, horse-and-rider duos will demonstrate their skill by isolating a single cow from the herd, using swift and agile movements to keep it separated — a spectacle of speed and instinct. Team Penning, on the other hand, brings a team challenge: three riders must corral and drive three specifically numbered calves into a pen as quickly as possible. Both events demand lightning-fast reflexes, sharp equine intelligence, and seamless communication within each pair, further cementing the Salone’s reputation as both a technical and thrilling experience.
Also returning is the increasingly popular Cowboy Mounted Shooting, an adrenaline-fueled competition that blends speed, precision, and western spirit. Riders must complete a timed course while bursting balloons with blank pistols, riding horses trained to stay focused and composed amid the noise and intensity.
Beyond the competition arena, the event offers educational moments and deeper connections with the horse through Natural Horsemanship workshops — a philosophy that fosters a relationship based on understanding equine communication and nurturing the human-horse bond.
But it’s not just about sport: the Salone will offer a rich program of western-themed entertainment, culture, and fun for all ages. Expect dazzling equestrian shows, a Native American village with historical reenactments and educational experiences, movie-style western scenes brought to life by costumed performers, and a themed area for live country music and dancing — with open dance floors running late into the night.
For food lovers, there will be a well-stocked food court featuring American and Italian specialties, perfect for a break between events. The exhibition area will showcase everything from saddlery and riding apparel to horse care products and the latest equestrian technology.
Once again, Salone del Cavallo Americano 2025 blends the technical excellence of elite competition with the inclusive joy of a celebration for everyone. With 700 horses and 1,000 riders expected, and more than 30,000 visitors annually, the event continues to be a magnet not only for professionals but also for families and curious newcomers.
