Ruthford Latham was the first rider to step on to the field in the Las Vegas finale, a competitor of German extraction, who competed with his partner Guaranà Champeix.
The stands were packed for the event, and the crowd gave the participants a warm welcome as they made their way onto the meadow, especially for the 61-year-old Ian Miller riding In Style, the first contestant to perform a clear run.
The other riders to clear the stage were: The American Todd Minikus on Pavarotti, the Swedish Helena Lundback riding Maddick, the German Markus Ehning on Leconte, a horse which had also competed in Italy with Giorgio Nuti in the saddle, the German star Ludger Beearbaum on Cuope de Coeur, Aachen Weg 2006 silver medallist Beezie Madden riding Danny Boy, Olympic gold medallist Rodrigo Pessoa on Rufus, Swiss Christina Lieber with LB No Mercy, and the 2008 World Cup winner Meredith Beerbaum on the implacable Shutterfly.
