Simone Blum takes the spotlight in Lausanne
Simone Blum took centre stage at the Prix de Lausanne, following some excellent results in previous stages of the Longines Global Champions Tour, including a second place finish in Berlin behind Christian Ahlmann on Codex One. Blum, who won the German national title this year, has stepped up to the elite circuit with confidence and a will to impress.
The German champion rode to her first victory in a 5 star GP on the same horse she’d ridden in Berlin earlier this year, the ten-year-old DSP Alice. Blum shared the podium with two french rider; runner-up Roger-Yves Bost, on Sydney Une Prince, and third placed Simon Delestre, on Chadino.
Five participants managed clear rounds, including Alberto Zorzi who was riding Ego van Orti on this occasion, rather than his usual Cornetto K. The horse upon which Zorzi did so well at the European Championships in Gothenburg, finishing fourth, has been sold to the British Dunwalke Ltd., owners of all the horses ridden by Alexandra Thornton. As well as acquiring the descendent of Cornet Obolensky, the British group have also bought Living The Dream, another horse ridden by Zorzi.
We shall probably see the strong 11-year-old jumper and the British amazon competing together in the future, but in the meantime Zorzi handled the transition with problems, proving he can do perfectly well even without the top class mount. The Italian rider continued on the same line he was on before the sale of Cornetto K, finishing fifth in Lausanne on the nine-year-old Holsteiner Ego van Orti, son of Casall.
