The fourth week at the Spring Mediterranean Equestrian Tour 2018 saw Mikel Aizpurua Quiroga make it a home win in the CSI2* Grand Prix.
With no less than fifteen of the 52 riders in the class moving on to the jump-off, the Spanish rider had to battle it out with world class riders such as Spain’s Sergio Alvarez Moya, Ireland’s Bertram Allen and Brazil’s Pedro Veniss.
It was however Mexico’s Jaime Guerra Piedra with Zamia 3 (Aljano 2) that set the pace, when crossing the finish line in 31.96 seconds. One rider later, it was time for Ireland’s Clem McMahon with Pacato (Pacino) to shave off 0.20 seconds on the leading time.
Among those who desperately tried to catch up with McMahon was Belgium’s Jessica Geurts and Harkito van den Berg (Darco), who put on a great performance, finishing in 32.10 seconds and slotting into third.
As the final rider in the ring, Mikel Aizpurua Quiroga blasted around the shortened track to push the time down to 31.15 seconds – bringing the Grand Prix win home to the hosts for the first time this MET-season.
