The 86th edition of the Eternal City CSIO

The 86th edition of the Rome Piazza di Siena CSIO was presented yesterday. The event will be held from 24 to 27 May. The presentation was a new and spectacular event in the world’s most famous oval heart; where for this occasion the sand was replaced by a grassy turf. Among the speakers at the event were Italian National Olympic Committee head Giovanni Malagò, Rome’s councillor for Sport, Youth
Policies and Grand Events Daniele Frongia and the Fise president Marco Di Paola.
Giovanni Malagò: “This will be a great month for sport in Rome. There’s football, a lot of football; international tennis, which has always been one of the most followed events in the world; and the Piazza di Siena horse show which will lead to the Pietro Mennea Golden Gala and then volleyball. Our venues are fully booked and I thank the Olympic Committee Service’s team for their hard work. Despite the many events held we have upheld the quality of each of them. When President Di Paola came to me at the end of the last event to inform me the field needed to be relayed, we relayed the grass and that is the best business card we can offer on the national and international level. Our objective is to continue improving at each step. I am happy to officially announce that on Friday, the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will be attending the event.”
Daniele Frongia: “I am happy with the evaluation chef de piste Uliano Vezzai made a days ago on the relayed grass at Piazza di Siena. Vezzani said “It is touching, makes a great effect, perfect for the foot”. The citizens and all the incoming guests who will join us for the competition will have the chance to admire the best riders and horses in the world, as well as a majestic and unique venue.”
Marco Di Paola: “Today, a dream comes true. Thanks to President Malagò and the Daniele Frongia, and the commune of Rome, Piazza di Siena has rediscovered it’s emerald gleam. This dream has become a reality thanks also to the precious word carried out by the Coni Servizi, who have always been close to us and willing to listen. However, Piazza di Siena is not just green in the colour of it’s grass, but also in the respect shown to the villa, to its unique monuments and the entire venue. This year the competition will expand to the Galoppatoio, which will serve as a second race field and will host promotional events. Our objective is to bring the fans: families and youngsters closer to the sport. That is why we have once we have decided to make assisting the event free of charge, because this is an event of Rome and we believe it is right that the citizens can take part in it completely. The fans will be able to see the top countries in the world compete: the USA; New Zealand, Germany, France, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. The grandprize is worth 835 thousand euro. We will be represented by a strong team, lead by Lorenzo De Luca and Alberto Zorzi, and will do everything we can to defend the title we won last season, for the first time in 32 years.”
