Tiffany Foster: Leading the Way as the World’s Top Female Show Jumper

Tiffany Foster has cemented her place among the best in the world of show jumping, holding the prestigious title of top-ranked female rider. With her unmatched dedication, deep connection to horses, and relentless drive to excel, she’s not just a champion but a role model for aspiring equestrians everywhere. From humble beginnings in North Vancouver to competing on the world’s biggest stages, Tiffany’s story is one of determination, passion, and perseverance.
A Horse-Crazy Kid Turned Champion
For Tiffany, her love of horses began at a young age, long before she ever imagined becoming an international competitor. “I was one of those kids who was just absolutely horse-crazy,” she recalls with a laugh. “If I wasn’t riding, I was reading about horses, watching horse movies—basically, anything horse-related. It’s all I ever wanted to do.”
Unlike many professional riders, Tiffany didn’t come from a horse family. “My parents weren’t involved in the equestrian world at all,” she explains. “I had to beg them to let me start lessons, and I think they were hoping it was just a phase.”
But it was far from a phase. Tiffany began riding at a local barn, soaking up every opportunity to learn. Her early years were spent competing in hunter classes, which she credits with giving her a solid foundation in equitation. “The hunter ring taught me so much about precision, balance, and how to ride a smooth, effective round,” she says.
It wasn’t until she was 21 years old that Tiffany made the transition to show jumping, a decision that would shape the rest of her life. “I was definitely late to the game compared to most riders at this level,” she admits. “It meant I had to work twice as hard to catch up, but looking back, I think it gave me an advantage. I had to learn to problem-solve and figure things out on my own.”
Her late start taught her the value of persistence. “I always tell young riders that it’s never too late to chase your dreams,” she says. “If you’re willing to put in the work, anything is possible.”
Breaking Barriers in a Competitive Sport
As the world’s top-ranked female show jumper, Tiffany has become a trailblazer in a sport where men often dominate the highest levels. But for Tiffany, gender has never been a barrier. “Honestly, when you’re out there competing, it’s not about being a woman or a man—it’s about being the best rider you can be,” she says. “That’s what I focus on.”
Still, she acknowledges that the road to the top isn’t easy for anyone, particularly women. “This sport demands so much of you—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. You have to give everything to it,” she explains. “For women, there’s often this added pressure of trying to balance your career with other aspects of your life. It’s not always an easy choice.”
Tiffany attributes her success to her laser focus and willingness to make sacrifices. “I’ve dedicated my entire life to this sport, and I think that’s what it takes to reach the top,” she says. “It’s not just about talent—it’s about showing up every single day and putting in the work, even when it’s hard.”
She hopes her achievements will inspire other women to aim high. “I want young female riders to see that it’s possible to compete at the top level and have a fulfilling career in this sport,” she says. “If I can do it, so can they.”
Safety in Show Jumping: Trusting Kep Italia
In a sport as demanding as show jumping, safety is paramount—and Tiffany Foster is a firm believer in taking every precaution to protect herself and her horses. Over the years, she has faced her share of injuries, including broken bones and concussions, which have given her a deep appreciation for the importance of high-quality safety gear.
“I’ve had a couple of really scary falls, and those experiences stay with you,” she says. “They’re a reminder that this is a dangerous sport, and you have to take safety seriously.”

One of Tiffany’s most trusted pieces of equipment is her Kep Italia helmet, a brand she relies on for its superior safety features and comfortable fit. “I choose Kep Italia because their helmets are designed to the highest safety standards,” she explains. “They’re lightweight, comfortable, and, most importantly, they protect my head in the event of a fall. I never ride without one.”
Kep Italia helmets are renowned for their innovative design, which includes advanced impact-absorption technology and exceptional ventilation. “I think a lot of riders underestimate how important a good helmet is,” Tiffany says. “Your brain is your most important asset—it’s worth investing in the best protection you can get.”
Tiffany is passionate about encouraging riders at all levels to prioritize safety. “Whether you’re jumping Grand Prix courses or just hacking out at home, safety should always come first,” she says. “It’s not about being afraid—it’s about being smart.”
The Horses That Defined Her Career
For Tiffany, her success is deeply intertwined with the incredible horses she’s had the privilege of riding. “At the end of the day, this sport is all about the horses,” she says. “They’re the real stars.”
One horse that holds a special place in her heart is Brighton, a gelding who was her partner for over a decade. “Brighton was a game-changer for me,” she says fondly. “He taught me how to win and gave me so much confidence. I’ll always be grateful for everything he gave me.”
Another standout is Figor, a horse that has helped Tiffany achieve major success in Nations Cups and other prestigious competitions. “Figor has such a big heart,” she says. “He’s incredibly brave and always gives 110%. Riding him is such a privilege.”
Tiffany is quick to point out that every horse she’s worked with has taught her something valuable. “Each horse is unique, and you have to figure out what makes them tick,” she explains. “It’s about building a partnership and learning to trust each other. When you get it right, it’s the most amazing feeling in the world.”
Representing Canada with Pride
As a proud Canadian, Tiffany considers it an honor to represent her country on the world stage. She has competed in multiple Olympics, World Equestrian Games, and Nations Cups, always wearing the maple leaf with pride.
“There’s something so special about riding for Canada,” she says. “It’s not just about you—it’s about your team, your country, and everyone who has supported you along the way.”
Tiffany is also passionate about supporting the next generation of Canadian riders. She co-founded the Can Jump Initiative, a program designed to help young equestrians gain international experience and financial support. “I want to give back to the sport that has given me so much,” she says. “The future of Canadian show jumping depends on helping the next generation succeed.”
Advice for Aspiring Riders
When asked what advice she would give to young riders, Tiffany keeps it simple and practical. “Work hard, stay patient, and enjoy the process,” she says. “This sport takes time—there are no shortcuts. Every horse and every ride is an opportunity to learn.”
She also encourages riders to stay true to themselves. “It’s easy to get caught up in comparing yourself to others, especially with social media these days,” she says. “But everyone’s journey is different. Focus on what’s best for you and your horse, and don’t rush the process.”
What’s Next for Tiffany Foster?
Tiffany’s goals for the future remain as ambitious as ever. “I’d love to win a major championship medal for Canada,” she says. “But more than that, I want to keep improving, keep learning, and keep enjoying every step of the journey.”
She hopes to leave a lasting legacy in the sport she loves. “At the end of the day, I want people to remember me as someone who gave her all to the sport and always put her horses first,” she says.
For Tiffany Foster, the journey is far from over—and she’s inspiring equestrians everywhere to chase their dreams, one stride at a time.
