Two Decades of Innovation: The Partnership Between Borgo La Caccia and Avantea Driving Equine Breeding Forward
From Fieracavalli Verona come the words of Beatrice Guidi and Omar Bonomelli, key figures in a partnership that for two decades has promoted innovation in the world of equine breeding.
In the heart of Fieracalli Verona, inside the Arena Tise, Beatrice Guidi and Omar Bonomelli shared the story of a collaboration built on trust and expertise that has lasted nearly twenty years: the partnership between Scuderia Borgo La Caccia, a leading operation in the breeding and management of sport horses, and Avantea, an advanced animal reproduction technology center based in Cremona.
The methods developed by Avantea — a pioneering center in equine reproductive biotechnology — make it possible to obtain embryos without interrupting the competitive careers of mares. This represents a strategic advantage for breeders and owners of sport horses, as also confirmed by Beatrice Guidi, Show Director of events at Scuderia Borgo La Caccia.
“It is a highly effective technique: it allows mares to remain in sport without long interruptions, and in some cases they do not even need to stop competing. It is a major breakthrough for the equestrian sector.”
Omar Bonomelli, owner of the center, recalled the origins of the collaboration, which began almost twenty years ago thanks to his father’s vision, at a time when Italian sport horse breeding was still taking its first steps in the field of biotechnology.
“We started many years ago, when everything was still in its infancy for Italian breeding as well,” Omar explained.
“Our partnership with Avantea allows us to offer clients an innovative and cutting-edge service. Their techniques represent a true revolution for those who want to combine sport and breeding. Veterinarian Giorgio Morini, who still oversees the veterinary management of our stable, organizes the programs to regularly bring mares to Avantea for OPU-ICSI procedures,” said Omar Bonomelli.
The numbers illustrate this growth: from around fifteen mares managed in the early years, the stable now oversees more than forty, many of them descending from some of the most important international sport horse bloodlines.
“We have horses that have competed at the very highest levels and are now with us specifically for their reproductive programs,” Omar Bonomelli added. “We continue to offer this service with the same passion and trust that have linked us to Avantea for two decades.”
The partnership between Scuderia Borgo La Caccia and Avantea therefore represents a powerful synergy that combines scientific expertise, practical experience, and long-term vision. It is a tangible example of how collaboration between research and sport can generate value, innovation, and sustainability for the entire equestrian industry.
