WEG: Luciana Diniz pulls out of event over health fears for her horses

The Portuguese Team will be without one of its top stars for the imminent World Equestrian Games. Lady-rider Luciana Diniz has decided to not take part at the competition after initially being selected with a total of 5 horses at her disposal. The reasons for her withdrawal are over the conditions of the mounts which she doesn’t retain suitable for an event of this level.
Her two top horses Lennox and Winningmood are both coming back from injuries and taking part at the upcoming event would be too soon and potentially dangerous. Diniz competed with Lennox at the London Olympics in 2012 and Winningmood at the 2009, 2011 and 2013 editions of the European Championships.
As with regards to the other 3 horses available, Fit For Fun, Lacontino and Upper Star don’t have the right amount of experience to take part in such a prestigious and important event as the World Equestrian Games.
A very wise and sensible decision then by the lady-rider who has preferred to put the health and growth of her mounts ahead of sporting ambition. A decision that is admirable and an example of what constitutes the equestrian spirit.
