Eric Lamaze and Check Picobello Z begin Winter Equestrian Festival with a win.
The first day of the Winter Equestrian Festival 2015 was marked by a win for Canada’s Eric Lamaze.
Lamaze took to the field with Check Picobello Z, the 2006 Zangersheide gelding, with whom he won yesterday’s main event at the WEF which is taking place at the Palm Beach Equestrian Centre.
Check Picobello Z has been with Lamaze since February 2013 thanks to his sponsor who purchased the horse from the Artisan Farm in Wellington from the previous owner Ilan Ferder.
Previously, Check Picobello Z has taken part at the annual world championships in the young horses category in Lanaken, and finished 8th in the 6 year-old category. Since then, the mount has improved considerably and has gone on to take part in the 1.45m categories at Spruce Meadows and the young horses category in Aachen.
2 years after the purchase, Lamaze is definitely satisfied with the performances from the Zangersheide grey mount who has been led by the experience of Lamaze. The Canadian rider is confident that this year the horse will be amongst the best of the up and coming performers.
Focusing back to yesterday, Lamaze and Picobello recorded a time of 68.886 seconds, leaving behind Adrienne Sternlicht with S&L Slingback (71.281 seconds) in second place and Leslie Howard on Moondoggie (71.324) in third. Lamaze also finished in fourth place with Rosana du Park (Kannan) with a time of 71.560 seconds.
