The LAPIDARIUM sculpture exhibition is now in its final weeks which means time is running out for those interested in paying a visit. Over 100 unique equestrian statues have been made with different materials (iron, fiberglass, bronze) and will be on display to visitors. The first stage of the tour was in Pietrasanta on the 22nd of March and it will end on the 31st of May 2014 in Venice.
This exhibition is also a form of “work in progress“ in the sense that it has been re-designed and seen the addition of new statues since its inauguration in March. The final design envisages three bronze horse statues (over 10m tall) in the church of Sant’Agostino, Pietrasanta. Marble horses will be displayed in the gardens and all naturally open to the public. In the main rooms meanwhile visitors will have the chance to view paintings and designs by various artists.
The creator of the exhibition is Gustavo Aceves, a Mexican painter and sculptor who now lives in Pietrasanta after a brief spell in Paris. His artistic influences come from Rembrandt and Bacon and are evident from his focus on the human body in his works.
