Marengo e Bonaparte

In our latest instalment of the role of the horse throughout history, we look back at Marengo one of the most important horses during Napoleon’s reign.
Marengo was in fact the war mount of Napoleon and received its name after the Battle of Marengo in which the horse carried his rider safely.
The war mount arrived in France from Egypt in 1799 as a six-year-old and was likely bred at the famous El Naseri Stud. Although small, the horse earned a reputation as a reliable, steady and courageous mount.
