Horses in Art: First woman to win at ancient Olympic Games

Cynisca was a Greek princess of Sparta who became the first woman in history to win at the ancient Olympic Games.Women were only allowed to enter equestrian events but only as owners or horse trainers. Cynisca employed men and entered her team at the Olympics and won the four-horse chariot race in 396 BC and then in 392 BC. Cynisca then had a bronze statue of a chariot and horses cast in her honour.
